Despite increased focus on phenotype-driven long-term therapy for asthma across the developmental spectrum, until recently, all acute wheezing attacks have been assumed to be the same and to warrant treatment with oral glucocorticoids. These assumptions have been challenged by data from adults showing that some, but not all, acute attacks are eosinophilic.
