| Resumen | Acute wheezing attacks are common in preschool-age children. These attacks lead to impaired quality of life and are associated with trajectories of poor lung function that may be lifelong, especially in children who are exposed to tobacco smoke and have allergic sensitization. Despite increased focus on phenotype-driven long-term therapy for asthma across the developmental spectrum, until recently, all acute wheezing attacks have been assumed to be the same and to warrant treatment with oral glucocorticoids. These assumptions have been challenged by data from adults showing that some, but not all, acute attacks are eosinophilic. |
