In 1858, Florence Nightingale made her famous polar area diagram to demonstrate that disease, not battle, was killing British soldiers. Using the same type of data visualization for the mid-upper-arm circumference among children younger than 5 years of age living in Gaza during the Israeli blockade in 2024 and 2025 reveals a pattern that Nightingale would have recognized: wasting in children tracks not only with the intensity of the ongoing war but also with the politics of access to nutrition
